Your children deserve to have a happy, healthy smile. Luckily, pediatric dentistry offers a way to keep your child’s smile healthy as they develop in their early years. Pediatric dentistry has much to offer for young smiles and is happy to help keep their smile healthy.

Our dentists, Drs. Okediji, Bram, and Danesh with Magnificent Mile Family Dental in Chicago, Illinois, understand new parents may have questions about pediatric dentistry, which is why our team is happy to share this list of information on the subject:

-A pediatric dentist is highly trained to improve the oral health of young children so that their smile can be strong for the rest of their life. By caring for their primary teeth, it sets your oral health in motion so that their adult teeth can grow in strong, full and correctly.

-A pediatric dentist has received two to three years of further education beyond dental school. The additional training allows them to provide high-quality treatments for younger individuals. Pediatric dentistry even includes service for special needs patients.

-Is your child at risk for cavities? If so, you’re welcome to bring them to their pediatric dentist for a dental sealant application.

-Common threats to a child’s smile include teething concerns, baby bottle tooth decay, thumb-sucking risks and concerns about the use of pacifiers. For help with a child’s smile, bring them in to see their pediatric dentist before they are one year old.

If you think your child is ready to see the dentist, then give us a call today at 312-280-0034 to make an appointment. Our dental team is happy to make the appointment and give your child’s oral health an examination to help keep the little smile in healthy, beautiful shape.

Making dental crowns is a fascinating yet time-intensive service. We love educating our patients about dental topics, so we’ve put together this information for you to help you as you learn about how dental crowns are created. Please tell us if you have any extra inquiries about how dental crowns are created.

The process of fashioning dental crowns starts in our office, where Dr. Olaitan Registe will make impressions and take measurements of your chompers using dental molds or imaging technology. Those measurements are sent to a dental lab where a technician will use the molds from Dr. Olaitan Registe to form a second impression, which will be filled with tough, long-lasting materials that are heated to high temps to make them moldable. Once the chemicals have been set and cured within the second impression, the mold is broken apart and the crown is removed, ready to be sent to our office, where the process started.

Dr. Olaitan Registe would be happy to catch up with you at their Chicago, Illinois, location soon; ring 312-280-0034 now to schedule your next visit with the Magnificent Mile Family Dental staff. If you have any further questions about crowns, please get in touch with us over the phone or in our office and we’ll do our best to answer your questions.

The holiday season has come around once more. However, although you can enjoy yourself without going overboard, make sure you are exercising practicality to ensure your mouth remains safe throughout the holidays. This includes limiting snacks, avoiding sugars, and not biting into overly hard treats.

Tricks and treats are abound this time of year, so don’t get tricked by a treat that can permanently damage your smile. Exercise caution with food such as candy apples, popcorn balls, and hard candies, as they can all potentially chip or crack your teeth. Instead, seek out treats that can improve your oral health. Crunchy foods that have a high water content, such as pears, can wash away plaque buildup and harmful acids that seek to damage your tooth enamel.

There are some minerals and foods that actively help re-mineralize your tooth enamel. This includes minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, which are commonly found in cheeses, nuts, various meats, and milk. An effective diet plan that is high in calcium and phosphorus can help strengthen your tooth enamel and improve your smile for many years to come.

If you notice signs of dental damage, fortunately, it can be treated. Magnificent Mile Family Dental remains committed to your oral health. You are welcome to book an appointment with us by calling 312-280-0034. Stop by our dentist office in Chicago, Illinois, and Dr. Olaitan Registe and our team will give you the treatment you need. Let us help you achieve a healthy smile!

Many people feel overwhelmed and nervous when they have to restore a tooth with endodontic therapy, which is also known as root canal therapy. If you’re one of these people, Dr. Olaitan Registe and our dental team are happy to help you. Usually, those feelings come from not knowing the process involved with endodontic therapy or from not knowing what endodontic therapy is. So, to help you, we would like to share some information.

Endodontic treatment is necessary to restore and save a tooth that has been extremely infected or decayed. During the treatment, Dr. Olaitan Registe will remove the nerve and pulp of the tooth because it will prevent infections to the surrounding tissues and it will prevent abscesses. Then, she will clean and seal the tooth with a dental filling or a dental crown.

Sadly, root canal treatment has the reputation for being painful. However, many don’t know that the treatment isn’t as painful as they think. In fact, the treatment is less painful than the pain experienced before the treatment and it is no more painful than a dental filling treatment.

After the treatment, the tooth will most likely be a bit sensitive for a few days. You can relieve the discomfort by taking over-the-counter pain medication. Oftentimes, you can return to your normal activities the next day. Until then, it’s best to recuperate.

As you can see, root canal therapy is a beneficial way of restoring your oral health. So, please don’t be scared or nervous. Our dental team will take great care of you. If you have any questions or if you would like more information on endodontic therapy in Chicago, Illinois, feel free to call Magnificent Mile Family Dental at 312-280-0034. The sooner you call us, the sooner we’ll be able to help you. We look forward to hearing from you!

Your dental bridge is strong and reliable, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take good care of it. In fact, you need to take care of it on a regular basis to keep it in tip-top shape for many years. So, to help you keep your dental bridge in pristine condition, our Magnificent Mile Family Dental dental team encourages you to do the following things on a regular basis:

-Brush: It’s recommended to brush your teeth and dental bridge at least twice a day for two minutes each time. You can brush in the morning when you wake up and at night before you go to bed. As you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Make sure to thoroughly scrub each tooth and your dental bridge.

-Floss: Make sure you floss your smile at least once a day—it doesn’t matter when—and don’t be afraid to floss around your dental bridge. Flossing will help you clean the plaque away from your smile, which can help prevent gum disease and tooth decay. As you floss, use a product that is easy to use, like waxed dental floss.

-Rinse: Rinse your mouth daily with antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash. Doing so will help you further clean your smile and kill the bacteria in your mouth, reducing your chances of falling victim to tooth decay and gum disease. Rinsing will also help you keep your bridge in tip-top shape.

-Be careful where you chew: When you first get your dental bridge, it’s best to avoid eating hard or chewy foods with it. If you eat these products, there is a chance you could break or loosen the appliance.

Call our office today at 312-280-0034 if you have any questions or if you would like to learn more about how to take good care of a dental bridge in Chicago, Illinois! The sooner you call our office, the sooner your dentist, Dr. Olaitan Registe, and our dental team can give you the information you need to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you!

You know that brushing and flossing your teeth are both important, but do you know which should come first? Would you be surprised to learn that the order doesn’t really matter? In reality, it’s far more important that you brush and floss properly.

As you may know, you should brush twice a day—but did you know that you should remember to brush for two minutes at a time? You should also remember to brush in circular motions to remove as much plaque from your teeth as possible. Sadly, if you don’t remove your plaque, it will turn into tartar. Sadly, you’ll need help from a dental professional to help you remove it.

However, while knowing proper brushing technique is important, you’ll also need to know how to floss correctly. For example, did you know that you’ll need to use at least a foot and a half long piece of floss each time? You should also remember to floss each tooth with a different part of floss to stop bacteria from spreading in your mouth. You should also remember to move your floss up and down, rather than back and forth. Finally, please remember to floss gently. Otherwise, you could accidentally damage your gums.

If you are interested in learning more about what you can do to floss and brush your teeth properly, we invite you to contact Magnificent Mile Family Dental at 312-280-0034. Dr. Olaitan Registe and our team will be happy to answer any question you may have. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

At Magnificent Mile Family Dental, the practice of Dr. Olaitan Okediji in Chicago, Illinois, we are pleased to offer mercury-free fillings for our patients’ healthy smiles. Amalgam fillings, or mercury fillings, consist of a combination of silver, tin, copper, zinc and mercury. Because amalgam fillings have mercury in them, they release small amounts of mercury into your body which may be harmful to your health.

Magnificent Mile Family Dental provides dental composite fillings, also known as white fillings, which are a tooth-colored filling that blends in with your natural smile. Composite fillings are a popular choice for your smile because they look natural. They are best-suited for small to mid-size cavities and can be used on both the front and back teeth, where they withstand the pressures of chewing.

Unlike amalgam fillings, with a composite filling, your dentist doesn’t need to cut away healthy tooth structure because the composite resin bonds to the tooth. Composite fillings shrink a tiny bit when they harden which might allow bacteria to enter, making them technique sensitive, so they take a little longer to fill, and our skilled dentist will make sure the filling is layered properly. Composite fillings last anywhere from 7-10 years when properly cared for and maintained.

If you need a cavity filled or have any questions about our mercury-free fillings, Dr. Olaitan Okediji at Magnificent Mile Family Dental in Chicago, Illinois, is here to help. You can reach our dedicated team by calling 312-280-0034 today!

If your tooth chips, falls out, or has an extreme, persistent ache, then you have a dental emergency on your hands. Seeing your dentist as soon as possible (or going to the emergency room if the dentist’s office is closed) is what you need to do.

What To Do If You Have A Dental Emergency

While you are waiting to see your dentist, there are a few actions you can take to help:

  • A Tooth Falls Out: Try to replant the tooth. Do not touch the root or force it in the socket. If you cannot replant the tooth, then keep it moist by putting it in milk or in your mouth.
  • Toothache: If this is persistent and accompanied with fever or swelling, see your dentist as soon as you can. Hold a compress to your face to reduce swelling, rinse your mouth with warm water, and gently floss your teeth.
  • Chipped Tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to the face to reduce swelling. If there is bleeding in the mouth, press a gauze pad to the area for 10 minutes (or until the bleeding stops).
  • Objects Stuck In The Teeth: First try to floss these objects out yourself. Do not pick them out with a sharp object because doing so can harm teeth and gums.
  • Bitten Tongue Or Lip: Gently clean the area with water, apply a cold compress to the face to reduce swelling, and press a gauze pad to the damaged area to stop bleeding.

How To Prevent A Dental Emergency

Dental emergencies can be unexpected, but there are some ways you can prevent them:

  • Wear a mouth guard while participating in sports or other recreational activities.
  • Avoid chewing on hard objects like popcorn kernels, ice, hard candy, fingernails, pens, etc.
  • Don’t use your teeth to cut through items, use scissors.
